The handicraft manufacturers in India employ around seven million people. Popular items include woodware, artmetal, handprinted fabrics, embroidered products, zari goods, imitation jewellery, sculptures, ceramics, glassware, attars, agarbattis, and more. Indian handicraft workers are 56% female. 744 handicraft manufacturers employ 212,000 craftspeople and sell over 35,000 goods. Clusters include Surat, Bareilly, Varanasi, Agra, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Chennai, and Mumbai.

From April 2022 to February 2023, the total value of handicraft exports amounted to US$ 3 billion. The total exports of Indian handicrafts in the year 2021-22 reached a value of US$ 4.35 billion, representing a significant growth of 25.7% compared to the previous year. The handicraft export of different segments from April 2022 to February 2023 can be analyzed as follows: - Wooden handicraft manufacturers accounted for a total export value of US$800.4 million. Art metal wares, primarily handicraft products and brass handicrafts, contributed to the export market with a total value of US$394.22 million.
