ABB has partnered with Think Gas, a city gas distribution company for automation of operations across Think Gas’ gas network, which includes many remote terminals spread across multiple locations, the company said in a stock exchange filing on Thursday.
ABB has created a system to integrate, monitor, and control day-to-day operations across the company, automating workflows to support operators in improving safety.
“At THINK Gas, we are committed to adopt state-of-the-art technology solutions that will help optimize our network, meet the growing demands in our markets, achieve efficiency and enable us to provide uninterrupted supply of natural gas to our customers. This partnership with ABB marks a cornerstone in our digital transformation journey, that is helping us build THINK Gas into a modern and robust CGD company that is ready for the future.” said Hardip Singh Rai, CEO, THINK Gas.
The ABB Ability Genix Industrial Analytics and AI package will be used in THINK Gas' digital architecture, bringing together different sources of real-time data from THINK Gas' operations across its network, the company said in a press release.
ABB's industrial AI has a lot of information and a holistic perspective of assets and processes by aggregating and categorising operational, engineering, and transactional data from IT systems, from which it gives improved, actionable insights for how to drive performance and efficiency.
The system will be handled through a central control room called Nucleus, where operators will be able to quickly collect information like operational equipment parameters and consumption trends, the company said.
With increased urbanisation and rising energy demands, India is investing billions of dollars over the next five years to provide piped natural gas (PNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) to roughly 70% of its population.
